What are the benefits of symptom tracking?
You will be able to understand within a couple weeks time the how, what, why, and when your symptoms increase or decrease. Our health tools show you exactly what choices in foods, treatments, drugs, and lifestyle choices affect your symptoms increasing or decreasing. This allows you with your doctor’s input to make important changes that can reduce your symptoms and create better health for you.
Being able to have a detailed record of your health progress allows you to show your doctor or educational professional exactly how you feel and how your treatment plan is working. Having a detailed report is a powerful aid in remembering important details during your appointment and verification of how you feel your treatment plan is working. Symptom Journal’s health tools help you prepare for your child’s IEP, providing verification of how your child’s educational plan is working, a powerful ally in creating the best educational plan to meet your child’s needs.
What services do I receive as a Symptom Journal member?
You receive access to comprehensive information about each health condition featured at Symptom Journal, an extensive symptom checklist, daily and monthly questions tailored specifically to track the most prevalent symptoms and daily choices your health condition, customized reporting technology, an integrated nutrition and exercise module, personal goal setting tools, an online writing journal, friends network, and discussion community. I have a hand written journal. Why should I consider switching to an online symptom journal?

How does Symptom Journal work?
You answer the questions, and we do the rest for you! We keep track of your answers to your questions, food, exercise, and your treatments, so you don’t have to. Like accounting software for health, you can view your daily progress in charts and reports.
Our tools are designed to be simple to use, and there is no schedule or frustrating rules to follow. You can even play catch up, by answering a couple of day’s questions at one time, but it is best if you do it daily. It’s your journal, to use any way that you like and at the times that work best for you and your lifestyle.
Symptom Journal is a rewarding, pleasurable experience that will benefit your health every day. Since your journal is web-based, you can access it from anywhere, even when you are away for business or vacation.
Do I need to use Symptom Journal every day to get benefits from my membership?
We always hope that our members will use their health tools daily, but we are all human and life does happen. Even if you only answer your questions, a couple of times a week you will have more information than you have now. We say “You Can’t Manage What You Don’t Track” and it is so true. The more you use your health tools the more information you will have to share with your doctor or educational team.
Do I need to use all the features of my Symptom Journal membership?
We realize that most people will probably answer their daily questions to begin with and then add in using our other features with time. Think of Symptom Journal as a buffet table, where you can pick and choose what features you want to use based on what fits your lifestyle and needs best.
How much time does it take each day to use the Symptom Journal health tools?
How can I access my membership account?
Your Symptom Journal account can be accessed from your computer, hand held computer or smart phone anywhere there is Internet access. Symptom Journal’s website tools can be used on most smart phones, iPhone, iPad, and other tablets.
Where do I find your privacy and terms of service information?
Does Symptom Journal provide feedback about my health data?
No, we do not provide feedback about your health entries or data at our website. The Symptom Journal health tools are self-help health tools that help you learn how to reduce your symptoms and share the data with your healthcare or educational professional.
Does Symptom Journal make recommendations based on my entries?
No, we cannot. Symptom Journal’s membership website is a self-help educational tool and is not a substitute for healthcare or mental healthcare. If you have a problem that requires medical or psychiatric attention, please contact your doctor or another healthcare professional immediately.
We suggest that you bring your reports with you when you visit your healthcare professional to use as a resource for showing your doctor your health outcomes based on your treatment plan and daily choices. Your doctor should be able to help you understand the relationship between your answers and help you evaluate what the charts mean in terms of the cause and effect between treatments, stress, daily choices, triggers, and health outcomes.
Will I be able to understand my reports without a healthcare professional’s input?
Most individuals can understand the cause and effect between their daily choices, nutrition, treatment, and whether their symptoms increase or decrease. We suggest that you contact a healthcare professional before making any changes in your diet, exercise, or treatment plan that can impact your health outcome.
How do I use my Symptom Journal information to communicate with my healthcare or educational professional?
Symptom Journal is a powerful tool for patients to communicate accurately with their healthcare or educational professional their symptoms; nutrition, daily choices, and treatment plan effects. You may choose to print out your reports to bring to your appointment, or you may give your healthcare professional access to your Symptom Journal account to review your information and run their own reports.
How much does my membership cost?
The cost of a Symptom Journal membership at this time is FREE, while we are back in BETA testing. We made a decision when we started Symptom Journal that we would not receive revenue from ads, banner ads, or paid content. We want a personal and intimate experience for our members, one that they could trust for an unbiased viewpoint. When and if we start charging for memberships again it will be very reasonable.
Is there a trial membership so that I can try Symptom Journal and see if a membership works for me?
How do I become a Symptom Journal member?
Click on the JOIN button in the Navigation Bar or click on the “Try Symptom Journal” button on any page and you will be taken to the registration page. Your first step is to choose your username, fill in your email address, and choose a password. Choose whether you would like to share some basic information with other users, and agree to the legal agreement. It only takes a couple of minutes to start your Symptom Journal membership.
After you have clicked “Create New Account” you will be directed to a page where you are able to choose which health conditions you would like to track. You will then be sent a welcome email with your username and password welcoming you as a Symptom Journal member.
How do I cancel my membership?
Send us an email at email@example.com and in the Subject area, put cancel membership. Please include your full name and email address that is associated with your membership and we will promptly cancel your membership.
What is the best way to start using my Symptom Journal membership?
There are many tools available to you as a Symptom Journal member and at first I would get my feet wet a little at a time. A good place to begin with your Symptom Journal membership is your Symptom Checklist for your health condition, which you navigate to by clicking on Profile in your upper navigation bar. Taking a few minutes to check the boxes that match your current symptoms and printing your Symptom Checklist will give you a snapshot of your current health condition. The goal of symptom tracking is symptom reduction.
Starting with your Daily Questions each day and inputting what you have eaten will only take a couple of minutes a day. This is time well spent, because you will start to see within probably two weeks time, in your reports, cause and effect between your daily choices, treatments, foods, and exercise as to whether your symptoms are increasing or decreasing with your current treatment plan. Your reports are a wonderful feedback tool to share with your doctor, giving them real-time information about how your current treatment plan is working, allowing for timely decisions concerning your health.
Go at an easy pace, remember that new behaviors or tasks in our lives take up to three weeks to change and become a part of our lifesyle. After a short while you will see how simple of a task it is to use your Symptom Journal health tools. Then at your own pace start using the tools as you wish, set new goals on your Goals Page, write in your Writing Journal, connect with friends in the Friends Network, comment on a topic in the Discussion Community or find inspiration and motivation with the tools and exercises in the Inspiration Toolkit.
Where do I find directions for using the different features of my Symptom Journal membership?
In your Profile area, you will find a link under Help & Information-Help that will take you to detailed directions for using Symptom Journal, if you’re the type that likes to read the manual before using something new. Or for people that want to just dive in, you will find ? Icon at the top each page, just click on the ? Icon and you will see a condensed version of the directions for that page.
If I invite friends or family to join Symptom Journal?
Can my company or corporation purchase bulk memberships to Symptom Journal?
Yes. Symptom Journal offers corporate packages. Please click on Corporate Solutions in the navigation bar to learn more. Can I communicate with other Symptom Journal members? Yes. Symptom Journal members can communicate with any member in the Discussion Community by clicking on a topic and entering into the discussion. You may also turn on sharing in your profile, which shares limited information with other members that have the same tracked chronic health condition and you may message them through the Friends Network.
